Espinosa said that the police ambulance plane should only be used for the institution’s own affairs.
Enrique Espinosa -who was removed from office as a general inspector in passive service of the National Police- gave his testimony as part of the political trial against Government Minister Maria Paula Romo. Espinosa accused Romo of «abuse of power,» after she made a personal trip in a police aircraft from Salinas to Esmeraldas during the Carnival holiday.
«That should not be done. That is unethical,» he said and added that the police ambulance plane should only be used for the institution’s own affairs.
Enrique Espinosa also commented that he was separated from the Police for having traveled with his wife last March in a helicopter that suffered an accident in Quito. «They never told me which rule I have broken,» he added and complained that he had not received the solidarity of the State as a survivor of the accident that left no victims.
Minister Romo said that her mobilization was according to the position she holds. Romo also requested the criteria of Jose Serrano, as a former Internal Affairs Minister, and Cesar Carrion, as a retired colonel from the Police, on the protocols that apply to these dependencies.
Legislators will request information from the Comptroller General of the State on the use of public goods of the National Police, specifically on police planes within the 2013-2019 period.
